Quadrille |
Le Quadrille des Lanciers is a composition by Olivier Métra (1830–1889). A Quadrille is a suite of dances, very popular in the 19th century, which brought together at least four pairs of dancers.
A quadrille traditionally consists of five dances: Pantalon, Été, Poule, Pastourelle and a final Galop. In Le Quadrille des Lanciers by Olivier Métra, the five dances are named Les Tiroirs, Les Lignes, Les Moulinets, Les Visites and Les Lanciers, respectively.
Le Quadrille des Lanciers discussed here is an arrangement for four-hand piano that Jean-Pierre Vial composed in 1981 for relatives of his who were exercizing at the piano.
