Pastourelle (pastorale) for oud |
||
|
This short piece was specially composed for oud, and for its performer Marina Toshich who premiered it during a concert in Tel Aviv Yaffa, Israel, in September 2012. She performed it again, and made a live recording of it, in August 2015. To audience from “old Europe,” oud music sounds as those medieval songs which tell of a romance between a knight and a sheperdess, often named Marian (or, maybe, Marina?). Quite logically, a song based on this “pastourelle” (pastorale) could tell of the romance between Maid Marian and Robin ... Oud. This is the Pastourelle recorded by Marina Toshich in August 2015. The original Pastourelle is scored for “oud”. Because oud is considered uncommon in Western music, the score is published for guitar instead, by Musicalion. (Oud and guitar use different tunings, but both are tuned an octave lower than the music printed.)
